The Broad Street Chamber Players

Flutist Elizabeth Chinery has been performing and teaching in the Capital District for more than 25 years. She performs with the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra and the Berkshire Lyric Theater Orchestra, and has appeared with the Albany Symphony. She has also performed with the Berkshire Woodwind Quintet, the Vivante Trio and the Taconic Trio. She earned a Bachelor of Music from Stetson University, studying with Geoffrey Gilbert (London Philharmonic) and Robert Morris (New York Philharmonic). She has studied flute, theory and composition with various renowned classical and jazz flutists.

Jay Shulman is a cellist, performing with the Long Island Philharmonic and the River Ensemble. He has made recordings with the Bronx Arts Ensemble and performs on the soundtrack of the PBS documentary “Josef and Anni Albers.” He has produced CD reissues of the Stuyvesant String Quartet and the music of his late father, composer and cellist Alan Shulman. He attended Syracuse University and Colby College, and studied with Frederick Miller and the Hungarian String Quartet. He teaches and performs throughout the Hudson Valley.

Pianist David Smith holds degrees from Harvard and Yale, and was a conducting fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and Aspen Music School in Colorado. He later studied with Nadia Boulanger and Jean Casadesus at the American Conservatory of Music in Fontainebleu, France. He has conducted the Harvard-Radcliffe Chorus, Orchestra Sine Nomine, New Haven Chorale, Harvard Glee Club, and Harvard-Radcliffe Collegium Musicum. He continues to be active as a pianist, organist, harpsichordist, conductor and teacher in upstate New York, and is artistic director and founder of Concerts in the Village, an ongoing series in Kinderhook.
